We are entering a new digital age, where controlling things like your oven, lights, heating and home security system are at your fingertips. There is so much new technology out there that we can't even fit it all in one post, so we are creating a new series to follow Smart Tech. This post will focus on Smart Heating, and go through all the ways you can control your house's heating and monitor safety in your home.
There are a few different brands that enable you to now control your heating when you're out and about. So, if your heating is set to come on when you get in from work but it's freezing and you want a warm house when you get in, you can simply go on the app and turn your heating on, or schedule it to start an hour before you get in so it's warm by the time you get in. They can even control your hot water- so if it's raining and you know you'll want a warm shower as soon as you get in, never fear, your Smart Thermostat is here!
You can get these Smart Thermostats from companies like Nest, Hive and Netatmo. All of these can be controlled by their own smartphone app, so they are easy to control while you're out and about. You can check your home's temperature on your phone, view reports that your thermostat creates and save money on your energy bill!
Nest have also brought out Nest Protect - a smart smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector. It alerts you wherever you are and lets you know if the alarm has been triggered. If a certain room detects carbon monoxide, the detector in that particular room will sound. And, if you burn some toast and set the smoke alarm off, you can silence it from the app!
These smart features to your home can make heating and protecting your home a lot easier to monitor and would be a great addition to your home! If you would like any advice or need someone to help install these in your home, get in touch with the experts at Mr. Electric.
